A hands-on program for youth ages 9–14 in the Hudson Valley.
CITYLab asks a deceptively simple question: what would you fix about Newburgh? Students examine real challenges facing their community — transportation, green space, housing, safety — and use design tools to research, propose, and present solutions.
The program combines the visual language of urban planning with the empathy skills of community organizing. Students learn to read maps, conduct informal research, build physical or digital models, and present their ideas to peers and invited guests. CITYLab develops advocates — young people who see problems and believe they can do something about them.
Curriculum guides, session plans, and program materials for CITYLab instructors and partner educators are available in the teacher portal.
