Revitalizing Newburgh through architecture, art, technology, gaming, and history, starting with a Minecraft rebuild of the city as it stood before Urban Renewal.
The aim of The Newburgh Project is to help revitalize and build up the Newburgh community through architecture, art, technology, gaming, history, design, and community partnerships.
Its first big project is a virtual re-creation of the city of Newburgh as it stood before Urban Renewal tore down over 1,300 buildings in the 1960s and 1970s. The model is built in Minecraft, so people all over the world can explore it, and it's still a work in progress.
The project is headed by Ember Beeler, who started it in 2021, and Newburgh Creates is its sponsoring organization. The project's own website has the story, photographs of the buildings that came down, a walk through the rebuilt streets, and ways to help.

A block-by-block rebuild of downtown Newburgh as it was, from old photographs, maps, and records. Tours of the build are on the project's YouTube channel and Instagram.
Minecraft building classes at Newburgh Creates, where students learn the history of a block and then rebuild it. Dates and sign-up are on the project's website and on our calendar.
Build sessions, game development workshops, and events where neighbors share photographs, records, and family stories of the Newburgh they remember, which help the project rebuild accurately.

How homeschool families use our studio, from the ROBOLab and BUILDLab labs to field trips and group projects.
There's room for builders, researchers, neighbors, and funders. The project's website has the ways in.
