The Hudson Press is a hand-cranked roller press cut from Baltic birch plywood. It was made for printing with LEGO® bricks — and it handles linocut, relief blocks, collagraph, and anything else you'd run through a small press. Build a plate, ink it, crank it through, and peel off an original print.
A hand-cranked roller press that prints with LEGO® bricks, linocut, and relief blocks.
Traditional relief printing means carving a block with sharp tools. The Hudson Press swaps the block for a baseplate. Studs become dots, plates become lines, and a kid can make a print they're proud of in under ten minutes — on a real roller press with real, adjustable pressure.
Snap bricks onto the baseplate. Letters, patterns, a robot, your name backwards — anything flat prints.
A brayer and water-based block-printing ink. Bricks take ink beautifully and rinse clean in the sink.
Set the paper, dial in the pressure screws, and crank the bed through the roller. Smooth pull, even pressure, every time.
Lift the print. Re-ink and print again — or rebuild the plate and start a new edition.
It's a hand-cranked roller press cut from Baltic birch plywood, with a sliding bed, spring-loaded pressure screws you dial in by hand, and a handle on top so it goes where the work is: kitchen table, classroom, porch.
Dial the pressure in by hand. Coil springs keep it even across the whole plate — no muscle, no uneven corners.
A LEGO® baseplate sits in the sliding bed for brick plates. Lift it out and the press handles linocut, relief blocks, collagraph, and anything else you'd run through a small press.
Cut from Baltic birch plywood with steel hardware. Designed and manufactured by Newburgh Creates. Made in the USA.
No sharp tools, no pinch points you can't see, a crank instead of a lever. We've tested that part thoroughly.
One solid unit, nothing to assemble or take apart. Pick it up by the handle and carry it like a briefcase — to a classroom, a party, or the porch.
Proceeds go to Newburgh Creates Foundation — scholarships, studio materials, and free community programs.
The Hudson Press is built by the founders of Newburgh Creates and provided to the Newburgh Creates Foundation, a 501(c)(3), for fundraising. Proceeds from every press support after-school programs, summer camps, and scholarships for kids ages 7–14. These are the same presses we use in our workshops throughout the Hudson Valley.
Want to give the press to a school or library instead of keeping it? Tell us in the order form — we'll handle delivery and let you know who's printing with it.

Yes. It's a roller press first — bricks are just the fastest way in. Linocut, relief blocks, collagraph, wood blocks, and foam plates all work. Set the block on the bed, dial in the pressure, and crank.
Yes — a LEGO® baseplate and a starter set of LEGO® print tiles, so you can pull your first print the day it comes home. It also works with any standard bricks you already have.
Water-based block-printing ink and any medium-weight paper. Cardstock, kraft paper, fabric, and tote bags all work. Everything rinses off the bricks with warm water. Ink, brayer, and paper are not included.
There's nothing sharp — that's the point. It's a hand crank and a roller, and there's nothing on it a nine-year-old can't operate. We've tested that part thoroughly. An adult nearby helps mostly with ink management.
Each press is cut, assembled, and finished by hand in Newburgh. We'll give you a build date when we confirm your reservation.

Model E is the full-size press on this page. Model F is a half-size version we're finishing now — same mechanism, smaller bed and footprint, lower price. It releases next week; join the list above to hear first.
